Integrative REBT
(Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy)
At Healing Space, our REBT offering is a focused, action-oriented therapy that teaches individuals that it is not life events themselves, but rather our beliefs about them, that cause us emotional distress, and teaches us the ways in which we can overcome these unhelpful ways of thinking!
At Healing Space, Ruth's REBT process blends structured, educational sessions with practical strategies. You’ll learn techniques such as cognitive restructuring and thought-disputation to change any rigid or unhelpful beliefs into more adaptable thinking and regain control of your emotional responses.
Central to the REBT approach, is the ABC model, which consists of:
Activating event
Beliefs about the event
Emotional & behavioural Consequences
Using this, clients are guided through the framework to identify and reform irrational beliefs, leaving space for healthier emotional responses.
REBT is beneficial for a wide range of challenges, including:
Stress
Depression and Anxiety
Trauma and PTSD
Addiction
Weight loss and Fitness (Ruth is also a Personal Trainer, so has experience in this area!)
Performance issues
& much more
What to Expect in an REBT Session:
Collaborative Assessment & Goal Setting - You'll work with Ruth to understand what brings you to the session.
Mapping the ABC Model - Together you'll unpack your situation: identify the beliefs (A), which underlie your reactions (B), and explore how they lead to distressing feelings or behaviours (C).
Disputation & Cognitive Restructuring - You'll then begin to challenge and replace irrational thoughts with self-helping alternatives. This may involve exercises such as thought recording, evidence weighing and decatastrophising, etc.
The ‘Integrative’ Component:
Lastly, this integrative part reflects REBT’s inherent flexibility, meaning that Ruth can integrate elements from other therapeutic approaches. She can blend REBT's direct and philosophical disputation of beliefs with, for example, mindfulness exercises, specific behavioural interventions, or insights from psychodynamic theory to create a more tailored approach for your unique needs.
