Grief & bereavement counselling
If you have lost a loved one and feel there are feelings or issues that you are unable to deal with or move forward from, then grief and bereavement counselling can help.
There is no right or wrong way to grieve and each loss is individual to the person. Grief is a sensation that ebbs and flows in intensity and is not always linear in time. Neither is it something that can always be explained.
Our culture promotes just getting on with it almost immediately after someone dies, and it can often become harder and harder to talk about your loss to friends or even family. It can be overwhelmingly alienating and lonely. Grief takes years to acclimatise to and is not something that goes away, but can merely becomes less intense over time.
You may have post traumatic stress (PTSD) from your loved one’s death, or from witnessing a painful illness leading up to their passing. Symptoms of PTSD in grief often appear as recurring images or memories of your loved one in difficult circumstances. This can stop you from accessing happier memories of that person. Grief counselling can help unlock this for you.
Grief & bereavement counselling is indicated for anyone who feels bereft or traumatised by loss.
During counselling sessions, you will be given the space to talk completely openly, without judgement or bias about your experiences. Each session is client led and any issues or repetitive thoughts voiced during the course of the sessions are highlighted and explored with the support of your therapist.
The aim of the therapy is to give you peace, closure and be able to unlock good memories with your loved one that you may not have been able to access before. The sessions are also geared towards you regaining your life back. Lifestyle changes that may help you focus on this may be discussed.
Positive affirmations, visualisation techniques are used, as well as herbal medicine in the form of Bach flower essences or herbal teas, both of which help with emotional pain, anxiety, or feelings of vulnerability.
